At SERA Solutions, we’ve set a new standard with our single-use wax markers. We aim to assist healthcare professionals in preventing hospital-acquired infections linked to the reuse of wax pencils; also known as china markers. We prioritize the safety of patients by ensuring single-use wax markers become a standard tool within labs to further assist with healthcare systems ongoing efforts to eliminate preventable infections.
As members of the neurodiagnostic community, we understand the critical importance of maintaining stringent infection control standards in our healthcare practices. While several single-use products have been introduced to our labs, one key tool has been overlooked for years; a single-use wax marker. Multiuse wax markers (china markers) continue to be used across hundreds of patients each year, exposing them to a variety of pathogens. These include HIV, C. difficile, hepatitis C, scabies, Creutzfeldt–Jacob Disease, ESBL-producing bacteria, and lice. Especially concerning is the application of these markers in scenarios involving blood, emesis, or cerebral matter on the scalp and within the hair of patients, such as post-surgery or post-intubation procedures.
The typical protocol for disinfecting these markers between uses often involves merely wiping them down, and removing one of the many paper layers before they are employed on the next patient. This practice poses a significant risk of cross-contamination between patients.
Our commitment extends to providing products that are ready-to-use and specifically designed for application on both skin and hair, meeting the high safety and efficiency standards required in neurodiagnostic and other medical settings.
